When I compose an image, I start with creative visualization. The vision is made real by working with light, shapes and texture. Light comes first, as it is transformative, alive and communicative. With the right light, the mundane becomes extraordinary, while even the sublime under the wrong light is at best banal. Light focuses and directs the eye through nature’s pattern language of shapes and forms, textures and rhythms.
Light projects exceptional energy rich with vibrant colors, exquisite details and the sensation of three dimensions. Light creates emotions transcending physical limitations and connects the eye to wild places, remembered or dreamed. By making photographs of light, I transmit the “feel” of the grandeur and beauty of Montana, her rural landscapes, wilderness and wildlife. This touches the viewer, creating a personal engagement in the image that is akin to experiencing it.
